Sharjah Art Foundation has launched a new project to document the history and glory of Sharjah’s land. The project will collect oral histories from three key areas: Al Mureijah, Al Shoyoukh, and Al Shuwaiheen.

The oral history project asks persons aged 60 and up to contribute their tales in order to learn more about the social and urban fabric of these three locations.People over 60 who have lived or worked in these neighborhoods are asked to share their life stories before, during, and after the many phases of change and growth as part of this initiative, according to the Foundation.

The areas are among the most historic in the emirate, but there is little written or recorded documentation of the significant transformations these areas have undergone over the years. Sharjah Art Foundation will use the information gathered in this project to compile and preserve a historical overview of the old quarter.Interviews with a varied spectrum of people will be undertaken to reflect the area’s population across time.

Individuals with an Arabian Gulf tribal lineage, as well as individuals with families from different regional and international origins, who settled in Sharjah between the nineteenth and early twentieth century and up to the current day, will participate in conversations.
