His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi has inaugurated the redesigned Al Majarrah Park, a new public space developed under the direction of Sharjah Art Foundation. The project combines public art, recreation, and community programming while reinforcing Sharjah’s broader cultural development strategy.

Located in the Al Majarrah district of Sharjah, the redesigned park introduces artistic and architectural elements intended to reflect local identity, collective memory, and social interaction. Consequently, the project positions public space as both a cultural environment and a community gathering point within the emirate’s expanding urban landscape.

“His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on Tuesday inaugurated Al Majarrah Park, affiliated with Sharjah Art Foundation, following its redesign, which embodies an artistic and cultural character reflecting the Emirate’s vision of supporting the arts and enhancing creative and community spaces.”

Upon arrival, the Ruler of Sharjah was welcomed by Hoor Al Qasimi, Nawar Al Qasimi, and senior government officials connected to public works, tourism, and cultural development sectors.

Public Art and Community Design Shape the Park’s Identity

During the inauguration tour, Sheikh Dr. Sultan explored installations and visual components inspired by the memories and belongings of Sharjah residents. Moreover, the park incorporates gathering areas and recreational zones designed to host cultural events, performances, and community-focused activities.

“Sheikh Dr. Sultan toured the park, viewing its artistic elements inspired by the memories and possessions of Sharjah residents, reflecting the community identity and cultural dimension of the place.”

The redesigned site also introduces facilities aimed at encouraging public participation and outdoor activity. These include a running track, climbing structures, football and basketball courts, and designated skating areas. Therefore, the park functions simultaneously as a recreational venue and an accessible public culture platform.

The project further reflects a growing trend across Gulf cities toward integrating art and placemaking into civic infrastructure. In addition, Sharjah continues to emphasise public engagement through spaces that combine landscape design, cultural programming, and social interaction.

“The Ruler of Sharjah was briefed on the park’s new facilities, which include spaces dedicated to diverse activities such as a running track, climbing nets, football and basketball courts, and skating areas.”

Sharjah Art Foundation Expands Public Art Across the Emirate

Al Majarrah Park forms part of a broader network of permanent public art projects developed by Sharjah Art Foundation. The initiative aligns with the foundation’s long-term strategy of embedding contemporary art into everyday urban environments rather than limiting cultural activity to galleries and museums.

The foundation’s wider programme includes projects such as Rain Room, the cricket ground at Al Mureijah Square, and Untitled: Excavation. Consequently, these projects collectively strengthen Sharjah’s reputation as a regional centre for contemporary art and public cultural infrastructure.

“Al Majarrah Park forms part of the series of permanent public art projects presented by Sharjah Art Foundation, which includes a number of prominent artistic works and facilities such as Rain Room, the cricket ground at Al Mureijah Square, and the artwork ‘Untitled: Excavation’ located in the outdoor space of Al Hamriyah Studios.”

The redesigned park also integrates green areas and water features, reinforcing environmental and wellness-focused aspects of the development. As a result, the project combines landscape architecture, public art, and recreational planning within a unified civic design approach.
