The Sheikh Zayed Festival 2026 calendar has expanded beyond its traditional winter programme with the inaugural Sheikh Zayed Summer Festival. Running from July 6 to August 23, 2026, the summer edition is taking place at Al Wathba in Abu Dhabi, combining education, innovation, heritage and family activities.
The new seasonal programme places particular emphasis on young people. Participants aged 6 to 18 can access skill-building activities, while artificial intelligence and innovation workshops introduce technology-focused learning alongside cultural programming.
Sheikh Zayed Summer Festival 2026 Highlights
The summer programme features indoor sports, health and fitness activities, heritage crafts and community-focused pavilions. In addition, specialist programmes are designed to encourage learning and participation among families and younger visitors.
Traditional culture remains an important component. The festival includes heritage crafts and community activities that connect contemporary programming with Emirati identity.
The Al Wathba Dates Festival, held from August 3 to 9, added another seasonal element to the programme. Meanwhile, the wider festival continues to combine educational activities with recreation and community engagement.
The location also provides continuity with the festival’s established identity. Al Wathba has hosted the main Sheikh Zayed Festival, making the summer programme an extension of an existing cultural and entertainment destination.
From Winter Spectacle to Summer Innovation
The 2025–2026 Sheikh Zayed Festival ran from November 1, 2025, to March 22, 2026, under the theme “Hayyakum” (Welcome).
That winter edition was marked by large-scale entertainment and record-setting New Year’s Eve celebrations. A 62-minute continuous fireworks display and a 6,500-drone show were among the headline spectacles, with multiple Guinness World Records reported.
The winter programme also featured more than 22 international pavilions, cultural performances and the Al Wathba Wonderland zone.
The summer edition takes a different approach. Rather than focusing primarily on large-scale seasonal spectacle, it places greater weight on youth development, technology, health, heritage and community participation.
Consequently, the Sheikh Zayed Festival is evolving into a broader year-round platform for cultural and social programming in Abu Dhabi. The summer programme runs until August 23, giving residents and visitors another opportunity to experience Al Wathba through a combination of Emirati heritage, innovation and family activities.
