Under the patronage of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum inaugurated the 20th edition of Art Dubai at Madinat Jumeirah ahead of its public opening from May 15 to 17.
Marking two decades since its establishment, Art Dubai 2026 reflects the fair’s evolution alongside Dubai’s wider cultural transformation. Moreover, the anniversary edition reinforces the emirate’s position as a global centre for art, design, and the creative economy. The programme brings together galleries, artists, institutions, and cultural partners from across the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America through exhibitions, commissions, talks, and installations.
Sheikha Latifa said: “For twenty years, Art Dubai has reflected the ambition and cultural openness that continue to shape Dubai’s identity. What began as an art fair has evolved into a platform that brings together artists, institutions, collectors, and communities from around the world, fostering dialogue and expanding the role of culture within society. This special edition is particularly significant as it reflects both the evolution of Art Dubai and the maturity and resilience of the wider creative ecosystem that has developed around it over the past two decades. It demonstrates what can be achieved when creativity is supported by long-term vision, collaboration, and a shared belief in the value of culture as a driver of connection, opportunity, and progress.”
She added: “Dubai continues to strengthen its position as a global centre for culture and the creative economy by investing in people, ideas, and platforms that encourage meaningful exchange and support creative expression in all its forms. Art Dubai remains an integral part of that journey and reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to building a vibrant, future-focused cultural landscape.”
Dubai Collection and Regional Modernism Take Center Stage
During the opening tour, Sheikha Latifa visited “Made Forward,” a major presentation from the Dubai Collection exploring themes of belonging, memory, and identity through works drawn from more than 20 private collections across the UAE. The exhibition includes artworks from Sheikh Mohammed’s collection as well as Sheikha Latifa’s personal collection.
Additionally, the tour featured a presentation of modern Arab art by the Barjeel Art Foundation alongside a series of large-scale installations, commissions, and site-responsive projects positioned throughout the fairgrounds.
Accompanying Sheikha Latifa were Benedetta Ghione, Alexie Glass-Kantor, and Dunja Gottweis. During the visit, discussions focused on the fair’s expansion over the past 20 years and its growing influence across regional and international creative industries.
Art Dubai Expands Public Access and International Participation
This year’s edition features more than 75 presentations by galleries, institutions, and programme partners. Furthermore, exhibitors represent nearly 20 countries, underscoring the fair’s continued international reach while maintaining a strong focus on regional artistic production.
Presented in partnership with A.R.M. Holding and supported by leading cultural institutions, the programme includes exhibitions, screenings, performances, talks, and daily activations across the venue.
Art Dubai 2026 also continues its commitment to accessibility by offering free public access to key exhibitions and programming areas. Consequently, the fair positions itself not only as a commercial platform but also as a public-facing cultural event designed to broaden engagement with contemporary art and design in Dubai.
