The Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka celebrated its National Day on Monday with a colorful display of cultural events at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The National Day celebrations highlighted the country’s export potential and kicked off a series of cultural events, which included a special visit from Foreign Minister Hon Professor Gamini Lakshman Peiris.
Spectators learned about Sri Lanka’s history from its beginnings to the present through the masterfully coordinated display. The chorographical, titled ‘The Pearl of the Indian Ocean,’ depicted phases of agriculture, medicine and healing, Mother Nature, and astrology, while merging traditional dancing with entertainment and drumming. We hope to strengthen our relations and generate new chances for collaboration through Sri Lanka’s robust participation at Expo 2020 and beyond, which will benefit both of our countries,” he added.
We are proud to say that our two countries have had strong and friendly relations for decades, with the UAE being Sri Lanka’s largest trading partner in the Middle East and collaboration spanning a wide range of sectors, including trade and investment, environmental cooperation, and mutual support on the international stage,” said His Excellency Ahmed Al Sayegh, Minister of State at the event.
The Sri Lankan Pavilion also displayed a flawless, vibrant yellow sapphire on Monday to highlight the country’s natural treasures, including its ageless ruins, train network, world-class culinary scene, conserved ecosystems, and breathtaking spiritual structures.
