The 16th annual Medical, Art, and Science Exhibition (MASE) competition for high school students featured more than 1,800 students from 55 schools.
Students assembled over 641 displays for the competition hosted by the Gulf Medical University (GMU), competing for cash prizes totaling Dh30,000 in six categories, including project, poster, painting, music, poetry, and business concepts. Students from grades 10, 11, and 12 from all over the country competed in the hybrid competition. They displayed on-site projects and posters while competing online in the remaining four categories of paintings, poetry, music, and business ideas.
Leading physicians, professors, and experts in the medical sciences judged the contests. Each of the six categories had three winners, and there was also an online vote for the Viewer’s Choice honors.
The new business idea category aims to foster fresh concepts and seek company proposals from students in the healthcare industry. A free certificate program from the College of Healthcare Management and Economics was awarded to each participant.
Prof. Hossam Hamdy, Chancellor, GMU, said: “All the participating schools have really shown a deep understanding of the theme and have responded with incisive and nuanced works. Every year GMU’s MASE stimulates the creative talents of young scientists and instills in them an interest in medical and science-based careers. It provides the students a platform to integrate art and scientific thinking.”
