TAG Heuer has quietly marked the upcoming Lunar New Year with a refined limited-edition release: the Carrera Chronograph Year of the Fire Horse. Rather than leaning into overt zodiac imagery, the Swiss watchmaker adopts a restrained, elegant approach that prioritizes symbolism through subtle details and refined materials.
The watch features a champagne-gold sunray-brushed dial finished with a warm ember gradient, offering a subtle nod to the Fire Horse without overwhelming the classic Carrera layout. In a thoughtful cultural reference, the numeral “7”—reflecting the Horse’s seventh position in the Chinese zodiac—is replaced in the red date window by the simplified Chinese character for horse (“马”).
Encased in a 39mm stainless steel case, the chronograph is executed in TAG Heuer’s signature Glassbox design, a modern revival inspired by the domed crystals of Heuer chronographs from the 1960s and ’70s. The dial is complemented by 18K 5N rose gold–plated hands and indices, while a fiery red gradient sub-dial injects a measured burst of contrast. Completing the vintage-leaning aesthetic is a seven-row beads-of-rice bracelet, combining ergonomic comfort with a clear reference to mid-century Heuer designs.
Powering the timepiece is the in-house Calibre TH20-07, an automatic column-wheel chronograph movement visible through a sapphire caseback. The movement beats at 28,800 vph, delivers an 80-hour power reserve, and features a printed galloping horse motif to underscore the Lunar New Year theme.
Limited to 250 individually numbered pieces worldwide, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Year of the Fire Horse is priced at $7,850 USD and is available through select TAG Heuer boutiques and online channels.
