Japanese motorsport heritage and contemporary digital art collide in a bold new collaboration between Team Ikuzawa and Scottish artist Chris Labrooy. The duo has unveiled a limited-edition capsule collection, curated by industry tastemakers Sarah Andelman of JUST AN IDEA and renowned fashion curator Motofumi “POGGY” Kogi.
The collection transforms the legacy of Team Ikuzawa into an imaginative superhero universe, drawing direct inspiration from a 1988 archival photograph of a Team Ikuzawa motorcycle racer stranded at the Isle of Man TT — a scene Labrooy described as reminiscent of an “alien landing.” This surreal reference blends seamlessly with the capsule’s aesthetic, which fuses 1980s Japanese racing nostalgia with the zipped-up, bold energy of superhero pop culture.
The collection offers a range of items, including a red track jacket, T-shirts featuring original artwork, collectible patches, sticker packs, and even an in-store jacket customisation service. Each piece reflects a mix of automotive heritage and playful imagination, showcasing both Labrooy’s signature CGI artistry and Team Ikuzawa’s racing DNA.
A cultural milestone for Team Ikuzawa in Japan
The launch also marks a significant milestone for Team Ikuzawa, as the Tokyo pop-up event introduces its mainline collection to Japan for the very first time. Founded by legendary Japanese racer Tetsu Ikuzawa, the brand has evolved into a creative platform under the guidance of his daughter, Mai Ikuzawa, blending motorsport authenticity with forward-thinking design.
Chris Labrooy, celebrated for his whimsical, often otherworldly digital artworks and collaborations with iconic brands like Porsche and Nike, lends his distinct artistic language to this capsule, reimagining Team Ikuzawa through a lens of futuristic surrealism.
The capsule will debut on April 17 at SELECT by BAYCREW’S, located in Toranomon Hills, Tokyo. For fans worldwide, a global online release is scheduled to follow on May 16. Until then, the collection invites fans to explore a striking fusion of racing heritage, digital art, and superhero flair.
