The 10th edition of the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial was launched on Wednesday by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, under the patronage of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
The Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial, organised by the Sharjah Department of Culture, will continue until November 30. The Crown Prince is being briefed on the unique and imaginative arts being displayed in the arts.
The Crown Prince visited the exhibitions and viewed a variety of artworks, including poems in various calligraphic styles and Quranic verses, created by several artists from the UAE and other Arab and Islamic nations.
He was informed about the works on display at the personal exhibition of the Emirati artist Khaled Al Jallaf, which featured a variation on the Kufic and Mualla calligraphy style and demonstrated the artist’s proficiency and depth of knowledge in the Arabic calligraphy arts.
The Deputy Ruler made a pit stop at the current edition’s exhibition of honoured artists, where he had started his trip with a visit to the display of Minister of Health and Prevention Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Owais. He listened intently as a thorough explanation of the priceless manuscripts from the 1980s that were part of the show was given.
Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of Cultural Affairs at the Department of Culture and the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial, gave a speech to open the awards ceremony. Al Qaseer emphasised the Biennial’s extensive range of events, which include exhibitions by 15 UAE artists. The Sharjah Art Museum, House of Wisdom, University of Sharjah, and other locations are among those where the Biennial’s events are being held. It encompasses more than 700 exhibited pieces by 200 international artists, as well as 200 events and activities.
