The amazing Sotheby’s Dubai exhibition is not to be missed, with everything from Andy Warhol to Egyptian jewellery

Contemporary Art and Luxury, Sotheby’s Dubai’s inaugural show to kick off the city’s art season, is a unique mashup of great contemporary art, brilliant gems, and cutting-edge timepieces.

Before moving on to New York, Geneva, and Milan, the travelling exhibition’s components are initially exhibited in Dubai. Even though the pieces in the exhibition have different themes, historical periods, and influences, their dualistic nature unites them all. Each artwork narrates a tale of its age while educating us about the current.

Alighiero Boetti’s Mappa (1989–1991; from his interesting series on maps) is impossible to ignore. The Arte Povera movement, which saw artists protest governmental and cultural norms in the late 1960s and early 1970s, included the conceptual artist from Italy.

Three sets of Warhol’s artworks are on display at Sotheby’s Dubai, each representing a different aspect of the concepts and subjects that dominated the iconic artist’s work.

Warhol’s series of four colored portraits of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (1985), coupled with a second set of four pictures of boxer Muhammad Ali, Muhammad Ali (1978), are currently on display at Sotheby’s Dubai.

The philosophy and culture of ancient Egypt were also heavily influenced by the notion of transcending oneself to exist eternally through imagery and objects.

To commemorate 100 years since the discovery of King Tutankhamen’s tomb, a number of Egyptian-themed gemstones will be on display at Sotheby’s New York’s sale of Magnificent Jewels on December 7.

The items, which are currently in Sotheby’s Dubai, comprise priceless jewels by the renowned Italian jewellery company Castellani and well-known Louis Comfort Tiffany creations for Tiffany & Co.

The Sotheby’s DIFC Gallery will host the Sotheby’s Dubai Contemporary Art and Luxury show from September 26 to September 29.
