Lead designer Satoshi Kondo embraced the beauty of imperfection in Issey Miyake’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection. Returning to Paris Fashion Week with an immersive 50-look showcase, the Japanese label captivated audiences with its experimental approach to fashion. The collection, celebrated as one of the best in a decade, received a well-deserved standing ovation.

A Vision Rooted in Abstraction

Built around four core themes—Abstract Concrete, Body Object, Nature Fabrication, and Clothing Sculpture—the collection redefined the relationship between clothing and the human form. Upon entering the venue, guests encountered sculptures of varying shapes and sizes. Ribbed knitwear rested atop cement blocks, accompanied by unconventional styling instructions. Meanwhile, oversized Issey Miyake garments linked models together, transforming the runway into a living art installation.

As the show began, fluid choreography set the stage. Dancers moved gracefully before transitioning into models, stripping away layers to reveal garments worn in unconventional ways. Dresses featured sleeves tucked inside, while asymmetrical cuts and displaced hip placements challenged traditional tailoring. Oversized blazers draped over misshapen shirts with exaggerated collars, creating a structured yet organic aesthetic.

Textural Exploration and Bold Statements

Color played a crucial role in the collection’s storytelling. Vibrant primary hues appeared in jumbo scarves, pocketed sweater vests, and structured puffers. Square-shaped outerwear with elongated pockets made a striking statement, particularly in the menswear selection.

The final ten looks brought the collection to a dramatic close. Billowing striped fabrics in shades of teal, voluminous outerwear, and flowing coats paired with knitted top hats emphasized Kondo’s signature artistic ambiguity.

As the show concluded, the audience erupted in applause, acknowledging the designer’s masterful ability to blend structure and spontaneity. Issey Miyake’s FW25 collection not only redefined contemporary fashion but also reinforced its reputation as a brand that transcends cultural and artistic boundaries.
