The captivating, multi-sensory sound and light installation known as Sky Castle was made by the multi-award-winning Australian art and technology collective ENESS. With its display in Dubai, Sky Castle is making its debut in the Middle East after earlier appearances in Australia, Hong Kong, China, Belgium, and Canada.

The d3 Winter Season will last from the middle of December 2022 through the end of January 2023. Sky Castle, a surreal, multi-sensory sound and light installation, was unveiled last night by the multi-award-winning Australian art and technology collective ENESS and Dubai Festivals & Retail Establishment (DFRE), a part of TECOM Group PJSC and of Dubai Design District (d3).

The work of art was presented to the d3 team, the artist Nimrod Weis, and representatives  from DFRE.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, launched the third iteration of the “World’s Coolest Winter” campaign during the Winter Season, which runs from mid-December to the end of January, and the expansive, engaging, and colorful installation serves as its centerpiece.

The installation is exhibited in conjunction with the Dubai Shopping Festival’s Dubai Lights activation, which is sponsored by DFRE. In the Middle East, Sky Castle is debuting for the first time. A colorful symphony of inflatable arches from the installation fills the entirety of d3.

In order to depict the escape from loneliness and the beautiful sky that comes after trying times, the Sky Castle story was written during lockdown. It was originally shown at Fed Square in 2020 as Melbourne, Australia, emerged from the pandemic’s third lockdown. The piece traveled to Shenzhen, China later that year. Since then, it has delighted visitors from Hong Kong, Belgium, and Canada as well as those from Australia. This winter sees the Middle East premiere.

From a design perspective, Sky Castle explores the usage of inflatables as transient structures in public areas. The multi-award-winning ENESS Studio is headed by artist and studio founder Nimrod Weis.

The Sky Castle project most accurately captures d3’s status as the leading creative hub in the area, bringing the UAE and the surrounding area a diverse and influential creative offering and mix. Art is a crucial part of the d3 ecosystem, just like design, fashion, and architecture.

The d3 Winter Season will also feature a variety of additional artistic, festive, and health and wellness activations and events over the course of the six weeks (15 December-29 January).
