The NYU Abu Dhabi Institute has announced an autumn schedule of in-person presentations after two years of online-only activities. Starting on September 8, a wide range of speakers will be on the schedule, talking about anything from politics and architecture to heritage and history.
Al Andalus, Environment and the Middle East, and Philanthropy are the three programmes that NYUAD will air.
Understanding Our Universe From 2km Underground, featuring physics Nobel winner Art McDonald, will be the first talk of the season. The discussion will focus on studies being conducted in subterranean labs that aim to answer fundamental puzzles about the universe, such as how the Sun burns and the nature of black matter particles.
Rashad M. Bukhash, the chairman of the Architectural Heritage Society, will speak about the evolution of architecture in the UAE on September 22 at The Evolution of Architecture in the UAE. It will begin with structures and artefacts from 6000 BC and go on until the 1980s.
On September 26, a documentary titled 50U: The Story of the UAE in 50 Portraits will be released. It will focus on telling human stories alongside historical accounts of the UAE. The anecdotes were assembled in the book 50U, which was released to commemorate the UAE’s 50th anniversary, using extensive interviews with citizens and tourists of the new country.
