The much-anticipated Museum of the Future in Dubai will open to the public on February 22. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, confirmed the news. When Sheikh Mohammed announced the launch date on Twitter, he praised the remarkable structure as the “most beautiful building on the planet.”
The formal opening of the Downtown Dubai facility, he said, will cap off an “amazing year” for Emirates. The site has long been praised as an architectural masterpiece and has already received international praise. The Shanghai Museum of Astronomy in China, the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, and the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum in Spain were among the other notable institutions represented.
The brilliant design and cutting-edge technological ingenuity of Dubai’s stunning landmark were commended. The seven-story tower is 77 meters tall and covers 30,000 square meters. In a list compiled by National Geographic magazine in July, it was rated one of the 14 most beautiful museums in earth. A research center with labs and courses will be housed in the huge space, as well as a location for museum visitors to try out new technologies.
The 17,000 square metre stainless steel front is lighted by 14,000 square metres of Arabic calligraphy designed by Emirati artist Mattar bin Lahej. The museum is accessible by two bridges. The first runs for 69 metres to Jumeirah Emirates Towers, while the second runs for 212 metres to the Emirates Towers metro station.
The facade is made up of 1,024 plates that were made entirely by robots in a first for the Middle East. According to officials, each plate is made up of four layers, each of which is formed in a 16-step procedure. The Museum of the Future in Dubai will be fueled by 4,000 megawatts of solar energy generated at a nearby station.
The museum is surrounded by a park with 80 plant types and a state-of-the-art intelligent and autonomous irrigation system. The futuristic museum is positioned to be an incubator of innovation, attracting the brightest inventors and entrepreneurs while also providing the general public with a glimpse into the future.
It will feature breakthrough technologies such as virtual and augmented reality, big data analysis, artificial intelligence, and human-machine interaction that will change civilization for decades to come.
