New Yorkers are well aware that their city is home to some of the world’s most intriguing museums, and Instagram followers appear to agree. Three local cultural institutions are the most Instagrammed museums in the United States, according to a new survey by art-related website SINGULART.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is leading the drive, with the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art following closely behind.
The Brooklyn Museum is also number four on the list, effectively making New York the most popular city on the list. To produce the list, the site first compiled a list of museums and galleries across the United States, after which it used Instagram to determine the most popular hashtag for each. The top 12 ranking was then compiled by adding all the results.
Surprisingly, the survey also highlights the fact that searches for “art museums near me” have surged by 100% in the last year. People certainly want to go out and view art.
There are a slew of reasons why the Met came out on top. It is a world-renowned institution, from its unique Date Nights to its forthcoming big makeover and its over two million objects on exhibit, but we promise that every single inclusion on the list is just as good.
