TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) has unveiled two groundbreaking supercars: the road-legal GR GT and its FIA GT3-spec sibling, the GR GT3. These models embody TGR’s philosophy of engineering “ever-better motorsports-bred cars,” continuing the legacy of icons like the Toyota 2000GT and Lexus LFA. By combining advanced technology with racing heritage, the duo represents the pinnacle of performance and innovation.
Powertrain and Engineering Excellence
Both vehicles are powered by a newly developed 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, producing 650 PS (641 horsepower) and over 850 Nm of torque. The GR GT benefits from Toyota’s first all-aluminum body frame, which enhances rigidity and reduces weight. Consequently, the car achieves a near-perfect 45:55 front-to-rear weight distribution. Furthermore, the development team prioritized three key factors: low weight, low center of gravity, and optimal aerodynamics, ensuring exceptional handling and driving dynamics.
Collaboration and Future Legacy
The GR GT and GR GT3 were created through a “one-team approach,” guided by Master Driver Akio Toyoda (Morizo) alongside professional drivers and engineers. While the GR GT delivers a road-legal racing experience, the GR GT3 targets customers seeking uncompromising race-winning performance in top-tier motorsports. Importantly, the project transfers vital skills from veteran engineers to the next generation, securing TGR’s performance “secret sauce” for the future. Both models are scheduled for launch around 2027.
