UAE’s Peec Studio Reimagines Nissan Patrol

In the fast-evolving world of automotive restomods, a Dubai-based design studio has turned to a local legend for inspiration. Peec Studio has unveiled its limited-run “Re:Patrol” series, a nostalgic yet luxurious reinterpretation of the Y60-generation Nissan Patrol, a model deeply intertwined with UAE history and family life.

UAE-based Peec Studio unveils a reimagined Nissan Patrol with bold custom design elements

The Nissan Patrol might not be the first model that comes to mind for a high-end overhaul. Yet in the UAE, it is an enduring symbol of reliability, adventure, and cultural identity. With the Re:Patrol, Peec Studio brings this legacy into a new era, combining bespoke craftsmanship with forward-looking technology and regional design cues.

A Culturally Rooted Design Philosophy

Unlike many restomods that either stick rigidly to factory specs or go radically off-script, Peec Studio’s Re:Patrol sits at a crossroads. The vehicle retains the instantly recognisable form of the Y60 Patrol—complete with its classic boxy silhouette—but now boasts meticulously considered aesthetic updates and interior refinements inspired by regional heritage and modern luxury.

Clara de Souza Bartholomeu, Peec’s Lead CMF (Colour, Material, Finish) Designer, explains that the design ethos behind Re:Patrol was not just about form, but expression. “We didn’t want to just replicate a Western aesthetic. Our goal was to reflect creative influences from Asia, Africa, and South America, regions often underrepresented in global car design,” she said. “Peec is proudly UAE-based, and we wanted to honour that identity.”

Peec’s design direction aims to bridge the gap between automotive functionality and fashion sensibility. The concept draws inspiration from global collaborations like Moncler and Mercedes, Louis Vuitton’s Formula 1 deal, and BMW’s work with Kith. But rather than mimicking them, Re:Patrol looks inward to channel regional creativity.

Petrol to Electric—and Back Again

Interestingly, the Re:Patrol project also ties in with Peec’s roots. The name “Peec” itself is derived from “Petrol to Electric Conversion”, a nod to its parent company, Peec Mobility. The mobility arm has made a name converting high-mileage petrol taxis—many with nearly 1 million kilometres on the clock—into robust electric vehicles.

Initially, Peec planned to stick with its EV expertise for the Re:Patrol. However, the studio later announced a second, V8-powered option due to high demand from purists and petrolheads alike. According to Peec executives, both versions have garnered equal interest from prospective buyers, showcasing the model’s broad appeal.

Zain Shaikh, Peec’s Head of Brand, recalls the decision-making timeline. “We began exploring the concept in October last year and quickly realised there was a gap in the market where fashion meets automotive,” he said. “This wasn’t about creating another modified truck. It was about tapping into something emotional and cultural, using the Patrol as a canvas.”

Bringing Regional Nostalgia into the Luxury Fold

The Re:Patrol is more than just a tribute to a classic 4×4—it’s an embodiment of UAE nostalgia repackaged through a luxury design lens. From the hand-selected interior trims to the heritage-inspired colour palette, the SUV pays homage to the past while embracing the future.

Moreover, this reinterpretation is part of a growing trend where Middle Eastern design studios are shaping their own narratives rather than relying on imported aesthetics. By anchoring the Re:Patrol in UAE identity, Peec Studio sets a compelling precedent for regionally-driven innovation.

As interest grows in the fashion-automotive crossover space, and with global audiences looking for more culturally diverse design voices, Peec Studio’s Re:Patrol project could prove to be a landmark in automotive storytelling from the Gulf.
