At Art Basel Hong Kong 2025, UBS is launching a unique initiative that reinterprets Chinese porcelain through contemporary art. To celebrate this, UBS partnered with K11 Craft & Guild Foundation to create Glazed Splendor, a remarkable fusion of fashion and craftsmanship.
This masterpiece is a collaboration between renowned fashion designer Guo Pei and Guangcai artisan Master Tan Guanghui. Guangcai, famous for its detailed hand-painted overglaze decorations, takes on a new form in this extraordinary project.
A Porcelain Gown Like No Other
Glazed Splendor features a golden couture gown composed of 6,000 hand-painted porcelain tiles. It is adorned with peonies and edelweiss, symbolizing the cultural bond between China and Switzerland.
Guo Pei, guided by Master Tan, immersed herself in the intricate world of Guangcai porcelain. “This collaboration taught me to balance heritage with innovation, pushing porcelain beyond traditional boundaries,” she shared.
Master Tan, inspired by Guo’s bold vision, explored new techniques. “For the first time, we transformed porcelain tiles into a dress. Her creativity challenged me to rethink the possibilities of Guangcai,” he said.
An Unmissable Showcase
Visitors can experience Glazed Splendor at the UBS Art Studio during Art Basel Hong Kong this week. This work not only redefines craftsmanship but also highlights how tradition can evolve through artistic innovation.
