In the picturesque town of Burgas, nestled along the eastern coast of the Black Sea, resides an artist whose works are imbued with a poetic nostalgia, echoing the glories and tribulations of history. Irena Dragova, born in this enchanting tourist-industrial town in Bulgaria, shares a deep connection with its landscapes and the songs of seagulls. These memories have stayed with her, even as she embarked on a remarkable journey that eventually led her to the artistic haven of Switzerland’s Ticino in the mid-90s.

Life was not without its challenges for Irena, particularly during her adolescence under the communist regime. However, her determination and resilience brought her to Switzerland, where she pursued a degree in business administration with a specialization in marketing. Despite a successful professional career, her heart yearned for something more—her childhood dream of becoming an artist.

Fueled by passion and longing, Irena embraced the path of art, seeking guidance through rigorous training and attending courses and workshops in Italy and Switzerland. The Peccia Sculpture School played a pivotal role in her artistic growth, allowing her to delve deeper into her inner world and giving her the tools to express her emotions through her work.

“I love what I do, and I do it with great enthusiasm and passion,” Irena shares. Her sculptures are unmistakably hers, characterized by distinct features that set them apart from others in the realm of art. As she explores the annals of art history and masters’ techniques, she remains committed to infusing her works with a unique tactile element—a tangible and intimate connection that only her hands can bestow.

Her sculptures are a testament to the evolution of the human form, embodying various attitudes, emotions, and struggles that define our daily existence. Each piece seeks to find a delicate balance, with specific parts of the human figure assuming prominence—the bust, the torso, the back, the abdomen—each telling its own story.

Recognition and accolades have been showered upon Irena Dragova, affirming that she is on the right path. However, she is not one to rest on her laurels. Her passion for art fuels an unyielding desire to delve deeper, to experiment fearlessly, and to push the boundaries of her own creativity. “Hope resides in the work,” she says, a testament to her unshakable belief that art has the power to shape our lives and inspire positive change.

As you admire Irena Dragova’s sculptures, you’ll find yourself captivated by the raw emotion and soul they exude. Each piece is an invitation to connect with the artist’s journey and experience a slice of her world. Through her art, she gifts us not only with beautifully crafted sculptures but also with a glimpse into the profound complexity of the human experience.
