Following their successful CENTRE 0.1 and Varick 0.1 sneaker releases, STAPLE is stepping into summer with a bold new slide silhouette developed in collaboration with Vibram. This fresh design stands out by using the innovative StratX compound, marking the first exclusive use of this material in the US. The slide reimagines STAPLE’s iconic pigeon emblem in a wingspan-inspired upper, combining technical innovation with artistic expression.
A Sculptural Design Powered by StratX
The slide’s upper is crafted from StratX, a compound created by molding rubber sheets through vacuum forming. This process allows the material to take on a supple yet durable quality, reminiscent of leather. Instead of applying design elements like printing or embroidery, STAPLE’s founder Jeff Staple chose to shape and mold the surface itself. “We asked ourselves, what if it was shaped and molded?” he explained. This minimalist approach results in a feathered, sculptural look that embodies the pigeon motif with elegance and precision.
Moreover, the sole of the slide also incorporates StratX, featuring an ergonomic curve split between black and white tones. This design enhances comfort while maintaining the futuristic aesthetic. Both STAPLE’s logo and Vibram’s signature branding are subtly etched onto the slide, providing a refined finishing touch without overpowering the innovative material.
Limited Release and Availability
Only 50 pairs of this exclusive slide will be available, creating a highly coveted item for collectors and fashion enthusiasts alike. The drop is scheduled for tomorrow at STAPLE’s new flagship store on Mercer Street, New York. Given the limited quantity and unique design, demand is expected to be strong.
