From September 21 to October 28, a show including 45 classic Korean paintings that student artists from the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage have recreated will be on display at the Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi.
The Korean Cultural Center in the UAE (Director Nam Chan-woo) and Korea National University of Cultural Heritage (Provost, University Headquarters Jung Youg-Jae) are co-organizing the Korean Traditional Painting Exhibition by Promising Painters in association with Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi.
The displays will feature works of art that have been reimagined by young artists to depict aspects of both Korean and Arabic traditional culture in an effort to foster cultural exchange between Korea and the UAE.
The majority of the artworks that were sent to Abu Dhabi were painted specifically for the show, according to the Korean National University of Cultural Heritage. In order for audiences in the UAE to readily engage with Korean traditional arts with some familiarity, the artists tried to incorporate some aspects of Arabic culture into the paintings.
The artworks that will be on display at the exhibition were created by Professor Kwon Ji Eun from Korea National University of Cultural Heritage and thirty bright, young pupils.
The works of art include paintings in the Dancheong style, a traditional painting technique used in Korea on wooden structures such temples, palaces, murals, and artefacts. This form of art has been utilised in several industries over the years, including painting, sculpture, and building. The design utilises common patterns and vibrant colours.
