The Triennale Milano, a historic centre for design and culture, has launched Voce, an immersive listening room and cocktail bar located on the park level of the Palazzo dell’Arte. Designed to elevate the museum’s musical programming, Voce will host everything from curated sound installations and live performances to workshops and meetings.
Architectural Revival with a Sonic Edge
Voce’s architectural transformation is the work of Luca Cipelletti, founder of Milan-based studio AR.CH.IT. Previously a location for the iconic 1960s Piper nightclub, the space has now been entirely reimagined while respecting Giovanni Muzio’s original 1933 vision for the building. Cipelletti introduced a sleek rectangular framework supported by columns that divide the 700-square-foot room into three naves. This configuration is enhanced by a 2.2-meter-high band of acoustic panels that span floor to ceiling, significantly improving sound quality.
Notably, the standout feature of the room is its soundwall. Designed with the expertise of hi-fi specialist Giorgio Di Salvo, acoustic engineer Lucio Visentini, and acoustic panel manufacturer Knauf, the sound system employs a distributed mode loudspeaker setup for immersive audio delivery. The space is not just a visual experience—it’s built to be heard.
Design Collaboration and Custom Furnishings
Beyond sound, Voce also showcases a curated design language. Lighting is handled by Anonima Luci, an Italian studio that created both monochromatic and gradient light effects, helping the room transform seamlessly between daytime sessions and late-night gatherings. Meanwhile, the seating—crafted by designer Philippe Malouin and produced by Meritalia—features a modular felt system that supports a variety of layout configurations.
This synergy between lighting, sound, and furniture fosters a dynamic environment tailored for flexible cultural use. Therefore, visitors can expect a multisensory journey from the moment they step inside.
Community-Driven Hours and Accessibility
Open from Tuesday through Sunday, the cocktail bar operates from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. To encourage public engagement, Voce will also welcome day visitors from 10:30 a.m. during its first month. It is easily accessible via both internal entrances within the Palazzo dell’Arte and from Viale Camoens.
Voce stands as a bold reinvention of space at Triennale Milano—where acoustics, aesthetics, and architectural legacy now meet for Milan’s design-conscious and culturally curious public.
