In a powerful homage to Chicano heritage and West Coast culture, Willy Chavarria and adidas Originals have introduced their Spring/Summer 2025 collection. The campaign, shot in Los Angeles by Carlos Jaramillo, features prominent figures like Candace Parker, Skyy Clark, and Alejandro Speitzer, embodying both the spirit and aesthetic of the collaboration.
Chicano Culture Meets Sportswear Heritage
This highly anticipated collection will arrive in two drops—on May 8 and July 10. Combining adidas’s classic streetwear identity with Chavarria’s bold, oversized tailoring, the range brings cultural storytelling to life through fashion. Inspired by Chavarria’s upbringing and the deep connection between Chicano communities and adidas apparel, the collection features a wide selection of ready-to-wear pieces and reimagined footwear.
Central to the collection are Chavarria’s signature silhouettes, infused with Mexican iconography and West Coast style. Notably, a standout oversized white sweatshirt features red and green paneling inspired by the Mexican flag. Across the back, both adidas and Willy Chavarria logos make a statement, while the front highlights “Chicano” in Old English lettering alongside a bold depiction of the Aztec eagle.
The collaboration also revives adidas’s historic Jabbar basketball silhouette, reintroduced as the Chavarria Jabbar Low and Jabbar Dress. These sneakers blend vintage DNA with modern detailing, celebrating both heritage and innovation.
A Personal and Cultural Statement
Reflecting on the campaign, Willy Chavarria emphasized its deep personal resonance. “adidas’ place in Chicano culture is a bit of an untold story,” he said. “I love sharing this iconic brand in a way that reflects how I wore it growing up and how we wear it now. Working with my close friends and extended family on this project in LA was a powerful and personal experience. It allowed me to capture the beauty of our Brown brothers and sisters against the backdrop that is home to so many of us.”
With this collaboration, adidas not only embraces cultural diversity but also underlines its historical role in shaping streetwear identity among minority communities.
