To mark nine decades of craftsmanship and innovation, Yoshida & Co. is hosting a special exhibition titled “Every day is a new beginning,” paying tribute to the enduring legacy of its founder, Yoshida Kichizo. The exhibition provides an intimate glimpse into the brand’s history and philosophy, showcasing rare archival pieces in public view for the first time.
Running from November 14 to 16 at Kudan House, the showcase highlights never-before-seen items that tell the story of Yoshida & Co.’s journey from its humble beginnings to global recognition. Among the featured artifacts are Kichizo’s original handcart, used in the post-war era to sell handmade bags, and a bespoke bag crafted for Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 film High and Low. Visitors will also see Kichizo’s personal trunk case and signature horseshoe-shaped coin purse, emblematic of his devotion to both utility and artistry.
Complementing the historic pieces are limited-edition silkscreened posters designed by Tadanori Yokoo to commemorate the brand’s 90th anniversary, alongside other exclusive anniversary items available for purchase.
Founded in 1935, Yoshida & Co. has become synonymous with its iconic Porter brand and the philosophy of “bags as tools” emphasizing function, craftsmanship, and emotional connection. Every piece is “Made in Japan”, a testament to the company’s unwavering dedication to quality and heart-driven design.
