IWC has unveiled the limited-edition Portugieser Automatic 42 Year of the Horse to celebrate the Lunar New Year, beginning February 17, 2026. The timepiece honors the horse, a symbol of spirited energy, strength, success, and courage in traditional Chinese culture.
Design and Features
The watch comes in a 42.4mm stainless steel case with a rich burgundy dial, reflecting the auspicious red tones of Lunar New Year celebrations. Golden hands, Roman numerals, and appliqués complement the small seconds display at 9 o’clock, the power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock, and a discreet date window at 6 o’clock.
Powering the watch is IWC’s 52011 caliber, an automatic movement using the efficient Pellaton winding system with ceramic components. This mechanism provides a 7-day (168-hour) power reserve across two barrels. The sapphire caseback showcases a gold-plated rotor shaped like a galloping horse, paying tribute to the Lunar New Year and adding a dynamic, visual highlight.
Availability
The Portugieser Automatic 42 Year of the Horse is limited to 500 pieces. Pricing is available upon request via IWC.
