Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami celebrate 20 years of collaboration with the unveiling of their new Artycapucines collection at Art Basel Paris, featuring 11 reimagined handbags and an immersive sculptural installation.
The collection transforms the classic Capucines silhouette with Murakami’s signature psychedelic motifs, including his beloved Superflat Jellyfish Eyes, playful characters, and intricate patterns. Standout pieces include the Capucines BB Golden Garden, inspired by Ogata Kōrin’s Chrysanthemum works; the sparkling Panda Clutch, adorned with 6,250 rhinestones; the Mini Mushroom; and the Mini Tentacle and MM Eye, which reference the monumental octopus sculpture dominating the exhibition space.
At the Grand Palais, Murakami presents a 24-foot-tall octopus sculpture inspired by Chinese lanterns, with luminous tentacles extending across the installation floor. Surrounding it are three “Plush Balls,” spherical sculptures inspired by M.C. Escher, creating a playful, immersive environment that bridges art and fashion.
The partnership between Louis Vuitton and Murakami dates back to 2003, when then-creative director Marc Jacobs invited the artist to reinterpret the Monogram Multicolore collection. Over the course of two decades, the collaboration has become a landmark in blending high fashion and contemporary pop art, culminating in this latest Artycapucines iteration.
The Artycapucines VII – Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami exhibition runs through October 26, 2025, at the Grand Palais as part of Art Basel Paris.
