The Zayed National Museum, the UAE’s national museum and centerpiece of the Saadiyat Cultural District, has officially opened to the public. Visitors can explore the history of the UAE, from early human habitation to the civilisations that shaped the nation’s identity. The museum also serves as a cultural bridge connecting the seven emirates, highlighting their shared heritage. Through the life and legacy of the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the museum presents Emirati values and aspirations, offering a unique lens to understand the nation’s development.

Immersive Exhibitions and Collections

The museum houses more than 1,500 objects across six permanent galleries, combining archaeological artefacts, historic items, audiovisual experiences, and contemporary installations. The visitor journey begins in the 600-metre outdoor Al Masar Garden and continues through galleries dedicated to Sheikh Zayed’s life, the UAE’s natural landscapes, and human habitation over 300,000 years. These exhibits illustrate how geography, innovation, trade, and faith shaped Emirati identity. His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, stated: “As the national museum of the UAE, Zayed National Museum tells the unfolding story of the land and its people. It demonstrates the unifying power of our history and our culture, providing a space where citizens, residents and visitors can see themselves reflected in the story of our people and our land.”

Cultural Programming and Visitor Experience

Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners, the museum’s opening marks a major cultural milestone for the UAE, complementing other 2025 openings in the Saadiyat Cultural District, including teamLab Phenomena and the Natural History Museum, along with the reopening of Al Ain Museum. To celebrate its launch, the museum offers a programme of performances, workshops, and cultural activities until 31 December under the theme “Deep Roots and Everlasting Legacy.” Highlights include traditional Razfa and Naashat dances, immersive Gahwa experiences, Taghrooda music, and poetry recitals. Hands-on workshops and guided tours connect audiences to traditional crafts and the museum’s collections. Onsite amenities include Al Nagwa Boutique, Erth Restaurant, Al Ghaf Cafe, and Garden Cafes. Entry tickets and annual memberships are available online at zayednationalmuseum.ae.
