Swedish interior designer Gustaf Westman has unveiled an immersive retail installation at Selfridges London, transforming The Corner Shop into a vibrant showcase of collectible furniture, ceramics and interior design. The large-scale pop-up introduces visitors to the “Gustaf Westman Universe,” an experiential environment that celebrates expressive home design through a series of playful domestic settings.

Running as a multi-room installation, the project extends Westman’s signature pastel aesthetic and sculptural forms into one of London’s most prominent retail destinations. At the same time, it reinforces the designer’s philosophy that interiors should reflect individuality rather than conform to conventional design rules.

Selfridges’ installation transforms retail into immersive interior design

Instead of following a traditional showroom format, the installation unfolds through a sequence of stylised living environments that invite visitors to experience furniture and home accessories in residential settings. Consequently, each room presents a distinct lifestyle narrative while demonstrating how Westman’s collectible designs adapt to different homes and personalities.

Visitors move through spaces including an eccentric fan room, a welcoming living room and several domestic vignettes, each highlighting the role of colour, form and furniture in shaping everyday living. Moreover, the installation continues Westman’s exploration of the home as an extension of personal identity, a concept previously developed through temporary apartment-based exhibitions around the world.

The designer said the installation aims to show that contemporary design can feel equally at home in luxury residences and shared urban apartments.

Gustaf Westman said in a statement, “I love the idea that different people can see themselves in the universe, whether you live in a luxury apartment in Notting Hill or in a shared flat with friends. My objects should feel at home. I want visitors to walk through the rooms and find something that inspires them, something that feels familiar, or something they didn’t know they needed.”

Exclusive London collection reinterprets British design traditions

To mark the brand’s UK debut, the Selfridges pop-up introduces a limited-edition capsule collection inspired by iconic British culture. Alongside Westman’s recognisable Chunky Cup, the release features a ceramic fish-and-chips bowl and a custom-designed tea strainer that reinterpret everyday British rituals through the designer’s playful visual language.

Meanwhile, larger furniture pieces receive new finishes created specifically for the London presentation. Westman’s sculptural Blob Sofa and matching daybed are upholstered in an exclusive heritage-inspired tartan, combining Scandinavian minimalism with references to classic British interiors.

Together, the exclusive furniture, ceramics and immersive room settings position the Selfridges installation as both a retail destination and a contemporary interior design exhibition. Furthermore, the project highlights Gustaf Westman’s growing international influence while introducing his distinctive approach to collectible design, furniture and homeware to UK audiences.
