The films— ‘A Hero’ and ‘Tala’vision’ have made it to the 94th Academy Awards shortlist whose nominations will be announced in February.

Two films from the Middle East have made their region proud as they have been nominated for the Oscars 2022 shortlist, which was announced on Tuesday.

The films— ‘A Hero’ and ‘Tala’vision’ have made it to the 94th Academy Awards shortlist whose nominations will be announced in February, ahead of the ceremony in March.

The film ‘A Hero’, directed by two-time Oscar winner Iranian Asghar Farhadi has been shortlisted in the Best International Feature Film category, which comes soon after the Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Language Film earlier this month.

The film features the story of a family man named Rahim (Amir Jadidi) who is imprisoned because of a debt that he is unable to repay. On a two-day leave from prison, he tries to convince his creditor to cancel the complaint against him, but events then spiral out of control. The film also had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year where it won the Grand Prix.

The film ‘Tala’vision’ by Jordanian filmmaker Murad Abu Eisheh has made the shortlist in the Live Action Short Film category. The film is a story about an 8-year-old girl Tala who is not allowed to go outside. Her only connection to the outside world is through a television set, until they are banned, and her father throws it out. But things take a spin after Tala steals another set and keeps it a secret. The film also has won numerous awards including the Student Academy Award in 2021. Earlier this month, the film won the Golden Yusr in the shorts category at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah.
