Fashion can be a powerful tool for communicating a designer’s message, and while most runway shows are exclusive, one Saudi events agency decided to be inclusive of important causes.
The Help Center, a pioneering Saudi Arabian institution that cares for children with impairments, including Down syndrome, was showcased in Basamat Arabia’s three-day market in Jeddah. To the delight of both organizers and observers, the young models joined their professional colleagues with grace and excellence on the runway during the event.
Aisha Al-Mami, the owner of Basamat Arabia says in an interview, that she has long respected the Help Center’s efforts on behalf of disadvantaged children, and that the bazaar took place during “Giving Back Month.”
Each of the bazaar’s three days featured various Saudi designers, with approximately 20 Saudi brands on show, including Nasiba Hafiz, Otkutyr fashion house, Honayda, Galag, Kim’s Coffee, and Parlor Salon, and 28. g. Bazaar De Basamat, according to Al-Mami, benefited from historic Jeddah’s “timeless significance.”
UNESCO has designated the port city and commercial hub as a world heritage site, and it is one of the Kingdom’s most popular tourist sites.
“We chose the name bazaar because it harkens back to a time when all the merchants and suppliers would congregate in a certain place known as a bazaar.” “This is basically what happened in the port of Jeddah,” she explained.
Al Mami says, “My aim was to build a runway, a beautiful runway glowing from the sky.” referring to descriptions of the city as the “Bride of the Red Sea.” Basamat Arabia works with both worldwide businesses wanting regional involvement and regional firms seeking international exposure under the tagline “From the world to Arabia, from Arabia to the world.”
