Loish, a digital artist with a lifelong passion for drawing, has established herself as a prominent figure in the world of character design. Her exceptional talent and unique artistic style have garnered a global clientele for whom she creates captivating digital paintings and sketches.
Born in the Netherlands, Loish’s artistic journey began at an early age. Encouraged by teachers and classmates who recognized her natural talent, she devoted herself to continuous practice and improvement. Her family’s frequent relocations took her to various countries, including the United States, Indonesia, France, and Belgium, fostering a diverse cultural backdrop that influenced her artistic development.
At the age of 15, Loish discovered the realm of digital art. Experimenting with Photoshop and an online drawing program called Oekaki, she immersed herself in the digital medium. Drawing became an integral part of her life, and during her senior year of high school, she realized her unwavering love for art and decided to pursue it as a career. Choosing animation as her path, she enrolled in the animation course at Ghent in Belgium. After a year, she returned to the Netherlands to study animation at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (HKU) in Hilversum, where she obtained her master’s degree in 2009 with her graduation project, Trichrome Blue.
Upon graduating, Loish embarked on a freelance career, taking on diverse projects ranging from animation to game art and promotional illustrations. However, her true passion and focus gradually shifted toward character design. The digital artist honed her skills and worked with renowned clients such as LEGO, Guerrilla Games, Amazon, EA, and Coca-Cola, leaving her artistic imprint on their projects. She consistently devoted her free time to personal paintings and drawings alongside her client’s work, allowing her creativity to flourish unrestricted.
In 2016, Loish partnered with her publisher, 3Dtotal, to release her first art book, “The Art of Loish,” which achieved remarkable success on Kickstarter, reaching its funding goal within two hours. Two years later, she unveiled her second art book, “The Sketchbook of Loish,” featuring rough work and sketches. These art books not only showcase her exceptional artwork but also provide invaluable insights into her creative process, accompanied by tips, tutorials, and background information. Through this experience, Loish discovered a deep passion for sharing her knowledge and demystifying the digital art process.
Motivated by her newfound enthusiasm for teaching, Loish began conducting workshops, giving lectures, and delivering live demonstrations at events worldwide. Her interactive workshops have inspired aspiring digital artists in various countries, fostering a sense of community and artistic growth. To further support her teaching endeavors, she established a Patreon page, where she regularly shares tips, tutorials, and behind-the-scenes materials, offering aspiring artists a glimpse into her artistic journey.
Currently based in Utrecht, the Netherlands, Loish resides with her partner, Arjen Klaverstijn, who has been an invaluable collaborator in developing her artistic endeavors. Together, they continue to explore new horizons and create captivating art that resonates with audiences worldwide.
