Roger Dubuis has once again joined forces with renowned tattoo artist Dr. Woo to unveil the Excalibur Monotourbillon Dr. Woo Episode III, a boutique-exclusive timepiece limited to just 28 pieces. This latest chapter in their creative collaboration draws deeply from cosmic storytelling, pairing it seamlessly with the brand’s high horology expertise.

Blending the intricate art of watchmaking with Dr. Woo’s signature single-needle tattoo style, the new watch embodies a fictional “galactic peace mission.” At its core lies the “Tourbillon Galaxy,” a concept inspired by the Whirlpool Galaxy—Messier 51a—located 31 million light years away. The swirling motion of this galaxy mirrors the mechanics of the tourbillon and the iconic astral design of Roger Dubuis.

Galactic Design Meets Haute Horlogerie

Cosmic motifs dominate the Excalibur Monotourbillon Episode III. Three pink-gold nebulas appear at 9 o’clock, while a spider is laser-engraved at 10 o’clock. Dr. Woo’s recurring rocket icon is printed on the sapphire crystal, accompanied by the phrase, “We Come in Peace.”

Crafted in titanium and 18k pink gold, the 42mm case and matching bracelet evoke both elegance and a futuristic edge. Between 10 and 11 o’clock, a spiral-shaped element alludes to a black hole’s entryway—a symbolic portal through time. This theme continues on the sapphire caseback, which features a hypnotic checkerboard spiral meant to illustrate cosmic distortion. There, an engraved message invites unknown lifeforms to engage in interstellar dialogue.

A Reengineered Movement Anchors the Vision

Driving the watch is a specially reworked caliber RD515, featuring a redesigned tourbillon cage with a three-arm upper bridge. This adjustment makes room for a polished galactic spiral rendered in stainless steel. The movement delivers a 72-hour power reserve and proudly carries the Poinçon de Genève—a hallmark of hand-finished excellence across all 193 components.

Dr. Woo reflected on the creative process, saying:

“For this collaboration, I’m really excited to re-revisit the idea of exploration curiosity, appreciating the mysteries that surround our thought and process.
This being Roger DuBuis’s and my third watch together, this one looks into the possibilities beyond our imagination, letting the exploration of our ideas take the driver seat. Always so happy to work with such a skilled and open-minded team to help take this vision to life, and I’m very excited to share with everyone.”

Available exclusively through Roger Dubuis boutiques, the Excalibur Monotourbillon Dr. Woo Episode III stands as a tribute to curiosity, craftsmanship, and interstellar imagination.
