Visiting Maker’s Mark in Bardstown, Kentucky, guests encounter Dale Chihuly’s signature glass art across the distillery’s Star Hill Farm. Towering sculptures and twisted glass pieces bring color and energy to the campus, including a massive chandelier suspended over the main barrel cellar. The bold works contrast with the pared-back industrial space, creating a striking visual dialogue between craftsmanship and environment.

Art Meets Sustainability

Chihuly’s installation aligns with Maker’s Mark’s environmental initiatives. Star Hill Farm employs regenerative farming practices to restore soil health, protect biodiversity, and conserve native species. The distillery has partnered with the University of Kentucky to establish the world’s largest repository of American white oak, crucial for sustainable bourbon production.

Amanda Humphrey, Star Hill Farm Advocacy & Experience Manager, guided visitors through the eco-conscious processes, highlighting how the farm integrates conservation into everyday operations. The glass artworks amplify the farm’s message, creating a seamless fusion of art, culture, and environmental stewardship.

“Summer of Sours”: Lifestyle Programming

Alongside the exhibition, Maker’s Mark launched its “Summer of Sours” program in collaboration with Big Night. The initiative reimagines the classic whiskey sour as a lifestyle experience, offering styled cocktail recipes, curated glassware, and hosting inspiration. The program illustrates the distillery’s aim to engage audiences beyond traditional bourbon appreciation, blending culture, art, and social experiences.

A New Cultural Vision for Bourbon

The Chihuly exhibition, together with Star Hill Farm’s regenerative efforts and immersive programming, positions Maker’s Mark as more than a distillery. The brand is cultivating a modern bourbon experience where sustainability, art, and lifestyle converge, expanding how visitors interact with Kentucky bourbon culture.
