The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority chose Ana Liz Cordero, along with other important figures from the art and design worlds, to establish her new art studio in the Al Fahidi Historical District. In spite of the current global conditions, the Ecuadorian artist will display her most recent works in her studio, including two special series that discuss giving nature its proper worth and achieving spiritual liberation. To do so, the artist stands out because of the Incas’ ancient roots and their appreciation of nature as a vital component of existence and God’s creation.
And so, in order to perfect her abstract techniques, she decides to incorporate all of the Incas’ knowledge and interests into her work. She does this by continuously combining layers upon layers of various natural materials, including leaves, flowers, sand, soil, and shells, that she finds in each location to create her abstract works. “Everything I collect serves as the canvas for my painting,” she said. “Rugged landscapes, mountains, and plants, they have distinct shapes, movements, which is why my art is not flat since movement is life. Each painting has a personal and unique seal,” the abstract artist continues.
She draws inspiration for her abstract paintings from the UAE region, specifically from the desert, the sea, and the mountains, where she also looks for materiality for her artwork. “Nature talks to us by its details, shapes, and colors; it is the point of connection with God and aids in our search for the true essence of humanity.” The public is cordially invited to stop by Cordero’s workshop and interact with her while she works on her latest series of paintings.
