Abu Dhabi is preparing to enter the international luxury watch calendar with the launch of The Escapement, a new collector-focused platform dedicated to contemporary horology, craftsmanship, and cultural exchange. Scheduled to run from November 20 to 22, 2026, the inaugural event aims to redefine the traditional watch fair model by centering conversation, storytelling, and design culture rather than purely commercial product showcases.
Conceived by watch enthusiasts and industry insiders, The Escapement arrives at a moment when collector communities increasingly influence the direction of luxury watchmaking. Accordingly, the platform places emphasis on immersive experiences, technical dialogue, and direct engagement between makers and audiences. Organisers have confirmed that venue details and ticketing information will be announced in June.
The event will bring together an international roster of maisons and independent watchmakers, including Greubel Forsey, Louis Vuitton, Rexhep Rexhepi, Chopard, Biver, and Romain Gauthier. Together, the participating brands reflect both heritage craftsmanship and experimental approaches, shaping the current horological landscape.

“Collectors have always been the people who give horology its meaning,” says co-founder Anish Bhatt. “The Escapement was created to build a platform where watches are understood as stories, craft, and culture.”
Craftsmanship, Design, and Cultural Narrative
Rather than functioning as a conventional trade exhibition, The Escapement has been structured as a multidisciplinary cultural gathering. Throughout the three-day programme, attendees will participate in masterclasses, presentations, and intimate discussions exploring watchmaking through the lenses of design, engineering, and philosophy.
In addition, organisers plan to introduce Abu Dhabi-exclusive timepieces alongside curated unveilings that provide deeper narrative context around each release. This approach aligns with broader shifts across luxury industries, where experiential storytelling increasingly shapes audience engagement.
Michel Nydegger, CEO of Greubel Forsey, notes that the platform offers a rare opportunity to connect directly with collectors in a meaningful way, describing it as a space “where we can share our ideas and passion with the people who care about them most.”
The event’s design-forward positioning also signals the growing overlap between horology, contemporary culture, and collectible design. Increasingly, independent watchmakers and established maisons alike present watches not simply as functional instruments, but as objects of artistic and architectural expression.

Abu Dhabi Expands Its Cultural Landscape
The launch further reinforces Abu Dhabi’s ambitions to position itself as a major international cultural destination. Over the past decade, the UAE capital has expanded its profile through large-scale investments in museums, design initiatives, and global creative partnerships. Consequently, the Escapement enters a city already associated with architecture, collecting culture, and luxury tourism.
By focusing on collectors and community, the platform introduces a more intimate format to the global watch circuit. Moreover, its emphasis on dialogue and craftsmanship distinguishes it from the transactional atmosphere often associated with traditional industry fairs.
As anticipation builds ahead of the June announcement, The Escapement is already emerging as one of the most closely watched additions to the 2026 luxury events calendar. If successful, the Abu Dhabi initiative could reshape expectations around how horology is presented, experienced, and discussed within contemporary culture.
