More than 100 contemporary, modern, and digital exhibitors from 44 countries will be present at the fair, which runs from March 1 to March 5, 2023. Of these, 30 will be making their Art Dubai debut.
Over 60% of our exhibitors are from the Global South, ranging from Accra to Tokyo and Singapore to Buenos Aires. 16 first-time exhibitors will be among the 72 galleries from 33 different nations that make up Art Dubai Contemporary, with the strongest-ever presentations from South Asia and Africa in the region. It was also announced as the largest-ever involvement of galleries and artists from Dubai, which reflects the local art scene’s ongoing development.
The 2023 edition of Art Dubai Digital, which is being organised by Singaporean educator and arts writer Clara Che Wei Peh, will showcase a number of the most cutting-edge digital platforms, virtual art spaces, artist collectives, decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), and conventional brick-and-mortar galleries, whose programmes are challenging and advancing new models for artistic production and support.
The Bawwaba segment of Art Dubai’s 2023 edition is being directed by Bangkok-based curator Vipash Purichanont and will feature solo exhibitions by 11 artists from the Global South. This section examines how these modern artists incorporate socio-cultural issues into their works in a variety of media, including painting, tapestry, film, and performance.
Mouna Mekouar, a curator and critic based in Paris, and Lorenzo Giusti, an art historian from Italy, are responsible for curating the 2023 edition of Art Dubai Modern. The exhibition will include solo presentations by the region’s Modern masters and will continue Art Dubai’s commitment to scholarly curating and art historical investigation. The selection focuses on artists from the MENASA region who were pioneers of contemporary art in the 1960s and 1970s and whose works have since played a significant role in contemporary art and reflect the region’s cultural diversity and depth.
