The list of participating galleries for Art Dubai’s 15th event, which will take place from March 11 to 13, has been released.
With the inauguration of Art Dubai Digital, a new area dedicated to digital art and NFTs, the show, which returns to its home in Madinat Jumeirah following a tented version in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) last year, will delve deeper into the digital and crypto art realm.
The part is being curated by Chris Fussner, director of the Tropical Futures Institute in Cebu, Philippines, and includes galleries such as Postmasters from New York, whose digital art programming dates back to the 1980s, and Emergeast, a new digital platform from the region created in 2014. Fussner’s selection consists of 16 galleries and platforms that display artworks in a physical format for visitors.
Blockchain is also at the center of a lot of the fair’s programs. For example, the current Campus Art Dubai will have a Blockchain Edition, which will include an eight-week course that will empower 12 digital artists from the UAE and internationally. Art Dubai Digital is the fourth gallery section of the festival, with the others being contemporary, modern, and Bawwaba, the latter focused on works done in the previous year or developed specifically for the fair.
At Art Dubai 2022, a total of 100 galleries will take part, with 30 of them taking part for the first time. More than half of the 40 countries on the list are from the Global South, an area that the show’s organizers have been emphasizing in its programming as it positions itself as the key marketplace outside of the western art fair circuit.
Art Dubai’s Gallery Support Program, which began in 2021, will be continued in 2022. Certain galleries can pay for their booth costs based on how much money they make during the event.
Art Dubai will take place at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai from March 11 to 13, with previews on Monday and Tuesday, March 9 and 10.
