New Initiatives Focus on Social Inclusion and Cultural Innovation

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), in partnership with Mubadala through the Mubadala Foundation, has launched two new cultural programmes: Artful Living and the House of Artisans Design Competition. These initiatives aim to enhance Abu Dhabi’s cultural scene through community engagement, promoting arts education, and preserving heritage.

Artful Living: Fostering Social Inclusion

Artful Living focuses on engaging senior citizens in creative activities and cultural education. The year-round programme aims to combat isolation, stimulate cognitive function, and foster a sense of purpose. By offering a platform for elderly citizens to explore their artistic talents, the initiative builds social connections and enhances wellbeing. Artists involved in the programme will receive specialised training to effectively engage this demographic, ensuring that participants benefit fully from these creative experiences.

House of Artisans Design Competition: Bridging Tradition and Innovation

The House of Artisans Design Competition, organised by the House of Artisans, invites students, creatives, and designers from across the UAE to create works that blend traditional Emirati craftsmanship with contemporary design. This competition seeks to celebrate the rich heritage of the UAE while encouraging innovation and pushing the boundaries of artistic expression.

A Strong Partnership for Cultural Development

His Excellency Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of DCT Abu Dhabi, highlighted the importance of the partnership with Mubadala, which spans five years. He expressed the commitment to enhancing the emirate’s cultural ecosystem, providing opportunities for both senior citizens and young talents to connect with art and heritage in meaningful ways.

Support for the Arts and Community Empowerment

Homaid Al Shimmari, Deputy Group CEO of Mubadala, stressed the importance of supporting Abu Dhabi’s cultural life through education and the arts. The partnership will significantly contribute to the growth of the emirate’s arts scene, fostering cultural vibrancy and inspiring connections both locally and globally.

Creating Positive Change through Art

Mansour Al Ketbi, Executive Director at Mubadala, expressed pride in supporting these initiatives, which empower both the elderly and younger generations. These programmes aim to foster sustainable development and lasting positive changes in the community.

The collaboration between DCT Abu Dhabi and Mubadala reflects a shared commitment to advancing Abu Dhabi’s cultural and artistic landscape. By promoting social inclusion and celebrating the intersection of tradition and modernity, these programmes are set to leave a lasting impact on the emirate’s cultural identity.
