Christie’s has announced that Yoshitomo Nara’s monumental Miss Forest sculpture will be a leading highlight of its Hong Kong 20th/21st Century Autumn 2026 Sales, bringing a rare museum-grade work by the Japanese artist to the secondary market.
Standing more than 2.3 metres tall, Miss Forest carries an estimated presale value of $1.3 million to $1.6 million USD. The sculpture will be presented at Christie’s Asia Pacific headquarters at The Henderson in Hong Kong ahead of the 29 September 2026 auction.
The work’s appearance marks a rare opportunity to acquire one of Nara’s monumental sculptural forms on the secondary market. Versions of Miss Forest are primarily held in major institutional collections around the world, including the Aomori Museum of Art and the Japan Society in New York. Another version was created specifically for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
Miss Forest Takes the Spotlight in Hong Kong
With its scale and institutional presence, Miss Forest anchors Christie’s seasonal Hong Kong lineup. The sculpture will be shown alongside major works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Yayoi Kusama and Gerhard Richter, positioning Nara’s work within a wider presentation of significant 20th and 21st century art.
Among the headline works is Basquiat’s Ancient Scientist, estimated at $7.2 million to $9.7 million USD. Kusama’s A-Pumpkin (YHP) carries an estimate of $6.2 million to $8.7 million USD, while Richter’s Abstraktes Bild is estimated between $4.9 million and $7.0 million USD.
The Hong Kong sales will also coincide with the auction debut of another work by Nara, the Q&A canvas, which is set to appear in the 21st Century Day Sale with an estimated value of $1.6 million to $2.3 million USD.
Together, the works form part of Christie’s seasonal programme at its Asia Pacific headquarters, with Miss Forest serving as one of the central works in the presentation.
Public Preview Begins September 22
The public will have an opportunity to view Yoshitomo Nara’s Miss Forest before the auction. Christie’s will open the public preview at The Henderson in Hong Kong starting 22 September.
The preview will precede the auction on 29 September 2026, when the monumental sculpture will be offered as part of Christie’s Hong Kong 20th/21st Century Autumn 2026 Sales.
The estimated value of $1.3 million to $1.6 million USD reflects the work’s positioning as a rare appearance by Nara’s monumental sculptural practice on the secondary market. Its presence alongside works by Basquiat, Kusama and Richter further places the sculpture within a major seasonal auction presentation.
The sale also gives Nara a notable presence across two formats, with Miss Forest representing the monumental sculptural offering while Q&A makes its auction debut in the 21st Century Day Sale.
