The Design Council Abu Dhabi (DCAD) has announced its second residency cycle: the DCAD Pottery & Ceramics Design Residency Program. Developed by Gushcloud International and presented in partnership with Italian porcelain brand Ginori 1735, this six-month initiative will take place at Abu Dhabi’s MAKE workshop. The program highlights DCAD’s commitment to design innovation, cultural heritage, and empowering UAE-based creatives.

Althea Lim, Group CEO and Co-Founder of Gushcloud International, said, “We are proud to facilitate this partnership and continue fostering a world-class creative ecosystem in Abu Dhabi. This residency reinforces the region’s role in global design dialogue and offers real pathways for talent to emerge on the world stage.” Under the chairwomanship of Her Highness Shaikha Shamsa Bint Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, DCAD continues to promote design excellence through programs rooted in sustainability, innovation, and Emirati cultural heritage.
The residency will host 10-15 UAE nationals and residents specializing in ceramics or pottery. Participants will receive training in traditional and contemporary ceramic design techniques. The curriculum combines studio practice, sustainability, design theory, and masterclasses, including a two-hour session led by Ginori 1735’s Creative Director. Residents will create original ceramic collections inspired by both regional and Italian craft traditions.
The program will conclude with a public Capstone Exhibition in late 2026, showcasing participants’ work to press, patrons, and collectors. Top talents will also have the opportunity to undertake a prestigious internship at Ginori 1735’s Florence headquarters in late 2026. This initiative strengthens Abu Dhabi’s status as a global hub for cross-cultural design and supports the UAE’s growing creative economy by linking centuries-old ceramic heritage with the next generation of design leadership.
