Brazilian artist Lucas Simões debuts his first furniture collection, Colendra, at Ulysses de Santi’s upcoming Lightness & Tension exhibition at Christie’s Los Angeles. Extending his sculptural practice into design, Simões channels mid-century Brazilian modernism, most notably Joaquim Tenreiro, to reinterpret classic silhouettes as bold, architectonic statements.

The collection features a dining table, bench, chaise lounge, and coffee tables, each transformed into a sculptural focal point. Simões experiments with architecture, materiality, and the interplay of solidity and void, creating wavy profiles that bridge modernist restraint with contemporary monumentality. The use of raw materials—including metal, concrete, and glass—enables him to explore balance, contrast, and textural dialogue across the range.

Patagonia Brazilian quartzite tops rest on angular steel frames, while polished concrete and tempered glass introduce subtle contrasts of texture and transparency. The resulting effect is simultaneously weighty and fluid, echoing the organic curves and geometric rigor of Tenreiro’s originals. By merging archetypal modernist aesthetics with a contemporary sculptural language, Colendra celebrates Brazil’s design heritage while pushing its artistic vocabulary forward.

The collection will be displayed alongside Edgar Jayet’s latest furniture pieces at Christie’s Los Angeles from September 5–19, 2025, offering a unique opportunity to preview Simões’ innovative approach to design and craftsmanship.
