One of the world’s largest raw rubies has arrived in the United Arab Emirates. The “Burj Al Hamal” or “Aries” is an 8,400 carat, 2.8 kg ruby unearthed in the village of Winza in central Tanzania that will be exhibited to gem enthusiasts on April 15 at Dubai’s Waldorf Astoria Financial Centre by Hollywood star Tamer Hassan.
Dubai-based gems and mineral asset management firm SJ Gold and Diamond, that specialises in providing investment opportunities for rare precious stones, is launching the rare gem as part of its new “Callisto Collection,” which includes millions of dollars in cut and uncut diamonds and rough rubies.
“This is the first time we’re showing off our collection’s crown jewel. SJ Gold & Diamond managing director Patrick Pilati stated, “Unveiling this one-of-a-kind stone to the public for bidding is a clear continuation of our passion to display the best of the best in the UAE.”
Following its first public appearance on April 15, the ruby will be auctioned off at a UAE market after Ramadan, with an estimated value of $1 million.
