India, a country rich in culture, is deeply rooted in its regional art and traditions, which differ every 100 miles. Art festivals are crucial in showing this diversity and exposing people to a variety of creative expressions.
The Kala Ghoda festival is one of the most prominent and promising among India’s many decades-old art festivals. Since its inception in 1999, it has grown to be the largest free-entry arts and culture festival worldwide. Mumbai’s beloved art festival, which was interrupted for two years due to the global pandemic crisis, will return in February 2023 for its twentieth edition. This huge festival will last in the Kala for eight days straight.
The history of the Kala Ghoda region is quite old, and it is today renowned for its cultural activity. With the Jehangir Art Gallery, Max Mueller Bhavan, Bombay University, Prince of Wales Museum, National Gallery of Modern Art, and David Sassoon Library nearby, it serves as the hub of these activities. To commemorate the art and the region, which take on a lovely turn in occasions like these, a large gathering of artists, entertainers, and craftsmen takes place.
The celebration is held in the Kala Ghoda neighborhood. From the southern end at the Regal Circle to the northern end at the Mumbai University, from the Oval Maidan to the west and the Lion Gate to the east, are traditionally the boundaries of the divided district.
This year, the Kala Ghoda festival event is divided into nearly 14 categories to include as many cultural activities and components as possible. The categories for this year are listed below:
