Ferrari has added another accolade to its storied design legacy, as the 12Cilindri and 12Cilindri Spider were awarded the iF Design Gold Award—one of only 75 such distinctions given this year out of over 10,500 entries globally. The awards were presented at a prestigious ceremony recently held in Berlin, celebrating excellence in product and industrial design.
Judges of the iF International Forum Design GmbH praised the Ferrari duo for their “ingenious use of graphic elements that wrap 3D surfaces” and a “form that is both exciting and reassuring,” setting the models apart in the highly competitive automotive category.
Additionally, Ferrari’s F80 also received an iF Design Award, underscoring the Italian marque’s consistent ability to marry engineering excellence with artistic expression.
Design Heritage Meets Modern Aerodynamics
Both the 12Cilindri and the 12Cilindri Spider are inspired by Ferrari’s front-engine V12 grand tourers from the 1950s and 1960s, echoing a lineage that blends elegance, performance, and innovation. The models are the latest creations from the Ferrari Design Centre, under the direction of renowned design chief Flavio Manzoni.
“The 12Cilindri is undeniably modern, yet hints at classic Ferraris,” stated the iF jury. “From its cutting-edge aerodynamics to the artistic surfaces, Ferrari once again proves its unmatched ability to create a vehicle that thrills both emotionally and visually.”
Standout design features include integrated active aerodynamics, a front-hinged clamshell bonnet that showcases the engine, and the twin pairs of exhaust pipes—a nod to the brand’s legendary 12-cylinder models.
Recognition Reinforces Ferrari’s Functional Aesthetic Philosophy
Ferrari’s award-winning approach reflects its enduring commitment to functional beauty, where design never compromises performance. The honours received at the iF Design Awards demonstrate the marque’s relentless pursuit of innovation while staying true to its identity.
“With each new model, Ferrari evolves its design language without diluting its DNA,” said a spokesperson from the brand. “The awards for the 12Cilindri, the Spider, and the F80 are a recognition of our team’s vision, where every line and surface serves both purpose and passion.”
Held annually since 1953, the iF Design Award is among the world’s most respected design competitions. The 2025 edition featured entries from around 70 countries, evaluated by an international panel of experts across disciplines. The Gold Awards represent the highest level of achievement in this global platform.
