Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – In an exciting development for artists, ATHR Gallery has announced a unique opportunity for art professionals to enjoy free accommodation in Riyadh this summer. The gallery is offering a few weeks of complimentary lodging to an artist who wishes to work in Diriyah’s JAX District.

According to a press release, this offer is open to art professionals currently working on a creative project or those who plan to commence one soon. The call for participants extends to individuals from various creative disciplines, including art, curation, music, architecture, and related professions, regardless of whether they are in the research or production phase of their projects.

The chosen applicant will be provided with a spacious, fully furnished two-bedroom apartment, free of charge. The apartment is conveniently located in Diriyah, just opposite the JAX District in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Hasan Saud, ATHR’s marketing and communications manager, emphasized that the initiative aims to break down entry barriers for artists. “It is for the community,” Saud stated. Unlike traditional residencies, this program does not impose any curatorial theme or specific goals and standards on the artists’ final product. They have the freedom to explore and express their creativity without restrictions.

“Our mission is to foster and develop artists,” Saud explained. “The goal of this program is to remove the entry obstacles for artists to explore new creative environments and to be surrounded by their peers.”

Applicants will be evaluated based on their compatibility with the local art scene and the legitimacy of their current project. The application process, which runs from Saturday, June 25, until July 7, requires candidates to submit an artist’s statement, resume, portfolio, and answer a few basic questions about their art.

To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must not already reside in Riyadh and must be at least 18 years old. However, as the focus will be on accommodating one artist at a time, this offer is not suitable for families. Participants will be responsible for funding their own projects and covering their expenses for food, transportation, and supplies.

“The timeline will be determined by the artist themselves, depending on their project and their intentions. However, if they do not plan to visit during the summer, their application may not be considered,” Saud clarified.

The location of the apartment offers convenient access through the main artery of the historic Diriyah area, surrounded by popular cafes and only a short distance from the vibrant heart of the capital.

This initiative by ATHR Gallery represents a unique opportunity for artists to immerse themselves in a new creative environment and engage with like-minded individuals. With free accommodation provided, the selected artist will have the freedom to focus on their project without the usual financial constraints. Artists are encouraged to take advantage of this exciting chance to explore the rich artistic landscape of Riyadh this summer.

For further details and to submit an application, interested artists can visit ATHR Gallery’s website starting from Saturday, June 25.
