Brazilian architecture firm Hersen Mendes Arquitetura has designed a remarkable artist’s home in Brazil’s Cerrado. Named Casa Das 7 Árvores (House of 7 Trees), the residence beautifully blends modernist style with eco-conscious design principles, honouring the native landscape.

A Design Inspired by Nature

The home’s design revolves around seven prominent trees on the property. The team carefully mapped, preserved, and incorporated these trees into the architectural process. The structure unfolds into undulating wings and corridors, partially supported by thick, tree-like pillars, evoking Brazil’s Brutalist architectural tradition.

The choice of eco-friendly BTC bricks, made from local clay, contributes to the home’s sustainable features. These bricks, along with yellow metallic brises, create a natural aesthetic while also providing sun insulation. This balance of form and function ensures the home’s energy efficiency, further supported by a photovoltaic energy system.

Interior Harmony with Nature

Inside, the design continues the harmony between nature and structure. The continuation of brick walls is complemented by green and brown tones, seen in subway tiles and joinery. Bahia Beige marble floors mirror the mulch-covered ground outside, creating a seamless connection between interior and exterior spaces.

Large floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the home allow natural sunlight to fill the rooms, reflecting the golden glow from the solar panels on the exterior. This creates a sense of openness and connectivity to the surrounding landscape.

An Eco-Conscious Masterpiece

The House of 7 Trees is a perfect example of how modern architecture can coexist with the natural environment. By thoughtfully incorporating the surrounding vegetation and utilizing sustainable materials, the design offers a peaceful retreat while remaining energy-efficient.
