Louis Vuitton has unveiled its latest cultural showcase, “Visionary Journeys,” at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art in Osaka. Running from July 15 through September 17, the immersive exhibition follows the brand’s Shanghai presentation earlier this summer, continuing a global narrative of creativity, travel, and cultural connection.

A Journey Through Legacy and Innovation

Curated by fashion historian Florence Müller and designed by Shohei Shigematsu, the exhibition spans twelve thematic chapters. Visitors begin in a soaring atrium where eight monumental trunk columns made of glowing washi paper form an ethereal welcome. This entry leads into the Trunk Hemisphere — an immersive dome-like space constructed from 138 Louis Vuitton trunks, serving as a visual metaphor for the Maison’s expansive creative universe.

The journey continues through rooms dedicated to the House’s origins, such as Asnières and Origins, featuring early sketches, archival images, and heritage pieces like flat-top trunks, steamer bags, and the iconic lock system. In Expeditions, visitors discover rugged travel pieces like the zinc trunk and the rare “Secrétaire Bureau Stokowski.”

Celebrating Cultural Dialogue with Japan

A central highlight is the chapter dedicated to Louis Vuitton’s creative partnerships with Japanese artists, presented on floating tatami platforms under mirrored lighting. Rare collaborative pieces with Takashi Murakami, Yayoi Kusama, Rei Kawakubo, and NIGO are on display, reflecting the House’s deep-rooted cultural dialogue with Japan.

Another thematic room, Monogram Canvas, showcases the legacy of the Maison’s iconic pattern with a central display of the 1896 monogram created by Georges Vuitton, including an original 1897 canvas sample. Surrounding this are emblematic creations that trace the motif’s enduring influence.

Craftsmanship, Collaboration, and Collectibles

The Workshop space honours the artisans behind the scenes, featuring archival video from the Asnières atelier and two custom trunks — a Toolbox Trunk for Louis Vuitton ambassador Sho Hirano and a Courrier Trunk created for Osaka-born designer Verdy.

The final chapter, Collaborations, celebrates bold artistic partnerships from Stephen Sprouse to the Supreme x Louis Vuitton crossover, presented across four multi-faceted kaleidoscopic domes. It underscores the House’s role at the intersection of fashion, street culture, and high art.

To mark the exhibition, visitors can access an exclusive gift shop offering two collectibles: the Visionary Journeys Exhibition Notebook and the Exhibition Catalogue — curated takeaways of this sensorial journey.

Reservations for the exhibition are available via the Nakanoshima Museum of Art website or Louis Vuitton’s official site.
