Canadian architectural studio Naturehumaine has unveiled Selenite, a minimalist forest retreat designed to promote well-being and rejuvenation. Named after the crystalline mineral Selenite, the structure reflects its namesake’s soothing properties with its clean white design and focus on wellness features.
Key Design Features
- Monochromatic Exterior: The retreat features white-painted wooden planks and metal roof panels that emphasize simplicity and purity, echoing the crystalline inspiration.
- Prism-Like Roofs: The two intersecting prism-shaped roofs, punctuated with skylights, deviate from traditional forms while offering unique lighting and aesthetic appeal.
- Inclusive Architecture: The 10.9 x 10.9-metre square plan integrates seamlessly into the forest setting, with a wooden ramp leading to the entrance.
- Wellness Amenities: Inside, the retreat includes a spa circuit with a sauna, steam bath, cold bath, and salt room. The lighting system adjusts to visitors’ circadian rhythms for an enhanced wellness experience.
Interior Highlights
- A neutral palette of white walls and grey floors contrasts with wooden cabinetry for warmth.
- Open-plan living areas feature floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights for natural light and expansive forest views.
- A large terrace extends the living space, offering a spa area and outdoor seating.
Architectural Vision
Studio founder Stéphane Rasselet explained that the retreat was conceptualized to harmonize ecological architecture with wellness. “The white colour and prism-like roof reference the purity and geometric beauty of Selenite crystals,” he said.
