“Since I was a child, I have been a great admirer of the Spanish art,” says Felipe
Felipe Tenorio is a self-taught pencil artist from Spain. He has loved to draw since he was a boy, but he never imagined he would be able to devote himself to it, so he developed other interests over time. He was compelled to take up a pencil and start drawing one day in 2018. He’s been posting his drawings on social media since then. He is currently based in Madrid and works there.
His artistic technique is known as hyperrealism and is characterized by its extreme precision and attention to detail. “I am fascinated by the fact that such a simple instrument as a pencil can create such exceptional artworks” says Felipe. All of his drawings are made with graphite and charcoal pencils on 100% recycled paper. What fascinates Felipe the most, is that with such a humble instrument as a pencil he can create such defined tones, details and textures that each drawing seems to come alive.
“Since I was a child, I have been a great admirer of the Spanish artist” says Felipe. The artist currently lives and works in Madrid. Felipe Tenorio also earned first prize for drawing in the European Museum of Modern Art’s ModPortrait 2021 international competition (MEAM).
Felipe says that he notices that when he draws he usually look for shapes in the drawing and even gives these shapes and shadows funny names like “oh this looks like a bird…or this shape looks like a crocodile with an open mouth”. It’s like seeing shapes in the clouds or in your morning coffee.
