Radiohead has confirmed the launch of Motion Picture House: KID A MNESIA, an immersive audiovisual installation that translates its landmark albums Kid A and Amnesiac into a large-scale spatial experience. After initially emerging as a digital project in 2021, the work now takes physical form, aligning music, visual art, and exhibition design within a unified environment.

From Digital Archive to Physical Installation

The project will debut at Coachella 2026, where organizers have constructed a purpose-built subterranean structure beneath the Empire Polo Fields. Spanning 17,000 square feet with 38-foot ceilings, the bunker-like venue introduces a controlled architectural setting for the installation. As a result, the project shifts from screen-based interaction to immersive, site-specific design.

At its core is a 75-minute large-format film directed by Sean Evans, drawing on thousands of visual elements created by Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood between 1999 and 2000. These materials—ranging from sketches to collages and paintings—are recontextualized within a cinematic framework. Consequently, the installation extends the albums’ original visual identity into a spatial narrative.

Sound, Image, and Narrative Environment

Described by Yorke as a narrative “in which a Monster is trapped in a derelict museum of the lost & forgotten,” the installation combines imagery with a custom six-point surround sound system. This audio environment features newly remixed tracks derived from the original album multitracks, thereby reinforcing the project’s archival depth.

Moreover, the integration of sound and image creates a fully immersive atmosphere. Visitors engage with the work not only as viewers but as participants moving through a constructed environment. Therefore, the installation aligns with broader trends in exhibition design, where multisensory storytelling defines audience experience.

Following its festival debut, the project will transition into a touring format across North America. Each توقف will offer two-hour entry windows, allowing 75 minutes for the central film alongside additional time to explore adjacent gallery spaces. These galleries will present full-scale artworks from the Kid A and Amnesiac era, further expanding the project’s material scope.

Touring Format and Exhibition Context

The touring iteration underscores the growing convergence of music, art, and design within contemporary exhibition culture. By extending beyond a single venue, the installation adopts a modular format adaptable to multiple cities. As a result, it reaches broader audiences while maintaining curatorial consistency.

Confirmed tour locations include Brooklyn, Chicago, Mexico City, and San Francisco, with venues such as the Palace of Fine Arts hosting the final توقف. The exhibition will run from May 2026 through February 2027, with general ticket sales opening April 24 following a pre-registration period.

Ultimately, Motion Picture House: KID A MNESIA positions Radiohead’s archive within a contemporary design framework. By merging audiovisual media with architectural space, the project demonstrates how music-driven narratives can evolve into immersive cultural environments that operate across disciplines.
